Chris Fong, of AP Corp, talks about our 2019 USSC Sign Exchange Show entry. Our entry was code-named the Chinese Dragon Wrap and was installed on a 2015 Audi RS7 APR Stage 2. Below we detail the installed of this one-of-a-kind Audi RS7 vinyl wraps which includes a variety of unique elements including reflective vinyl, 3M DI-NOC, and textured underlays.
On the hood, the first thing we did on the car is the embossing dragon scale texture. Underneath of this entire film is a layer of vinyl we machine cut, or plotted, in a dragon scale pattern. We installed this pattern as a base layer or underlay to give the layer above a unique textured look and feel. We then laid our second layer of vinyl over top of the dragon scale pattern. The layer over top is an avery blue marble vinyl finish. Lastly, in the hood area, we decided to bring along some Avery gold chrome as well because we knew we wanted to do some accents which ended up being used on the lower hood area.
A closer look at the wrap will also reveal we overlaid the vinyl vehicle wrap with 3M gold dust sparkle. So the next thing we did was overlay a 3rd layer using 3M reflective 780 vinyl. This reflective vehicle vinyl wrap is essentially what you see on emergency vehicles at night. Your headlights hit this reflective vinyl wrap and it really makes the design really pop.
The final piece of vinyl we put on the audi rs7 dragon wrap is something that normally doesn’t go on a vehicle. This is an architectural film sold by 3m, it’s official names is 3M DI-NOC architectural film. You usually see this film when someone refinishes their cabinets, architectural elements, desks, etc. in a building. Here, we used it to create the look of wooden rocker panels, wood chrome delete, wood door handle accents, and wooden rims. 3M DI-NOC is such a versatile material it can be used in a variety of applications when it comes to wood vehicle wraps.
